Udaipur, Sep 28: Earlier this month, a senior officer of Rajasthan’s premier police agency, the Special Operations Group allegedly sought a bribe of Rs 2 crore from a man in lieu of getting his name cleared in the multi-crore Udaipur Municipal Corporation land scam case.
Mukesh Kumar Soni an Additional Superintendent of Police with the SOG was arrested by the state’s Anti Corruption Bureau after his alleged middleman, Sajjan Singh Jain alias Tatla, was caught “red-handed” while accepting a bribe of Rs 2 crore on his behalf.
It said that after the complainant insisted to verify that the money was indeed for Soni, Singh arranged a meeting between the two in a car a few days ago.
During the conversation, Soni did not speak at all apparently out of fear of being recorded and allegedly just showed a text stating “Rs 2 crore” to the complainant, officials added.
After verification, the ACB laid a trap and arrested Singh while he was allegedly accepting the bribe from the complainant’s factory.
Following Singh’s arrest, Soni, too, was detained at his residence in Balotra district the same day and arrested.
A case has been lodged under relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act as well as the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) section for criminal conspiracy.
