Australia wins 2nd consecutive One day Match against India; Leads series 2-0

Australia wins 2nd One day match against India

BRISBANE, Jan 15: George Bailey scored 78 from 58 balls to steer Australia over India by seven wickets in the second limited-overs international and a 2-0 lead in the five-match series on Friday.

India won the toss and batted and Rohit Sharma scored 124 in a total of 308-8.

Sharma made 171 not out in Perth, where India posted 309-3, and shared a second-wicket stand of 207 with Virat Kohli.

The pair again provided the impetus for India's innings, putting on 135 for the second wicket in Brisbane. Ajinkya Rahane then made 89 as India set Australia a testing target as rain threatened.

Sharma was only the third batsman after England's Graham Hick and his fellow Indian VVS Laxman to score back-to-back one-day international centuries against Australia in Australia. He also became the first Indian batsman to score four ODI centuries on Australian soil, overtaking Laxman's three.

While in Perth India looked to be aggressive and force the scoring early on, Sharma guided a more careful policy on Friday as the tourists tried to maintain wickets to allow a late surge in the run chase.

Australia's reply was more aggressive in the second match, with Aaron Finch (71) and Shaun Marsh (71) sharing a 145-run opening stand.

Steve Smith, who scored 149 in Perth, scored at almost a run-a-ball to post 46 before leaving Bailey, who also scored a century in Perth, to combine with Glenn Maxwell to guide the Australians home.
