RAMBAN, JULY 30: To review road safety measures and undertake effective corrective interventions to prevent road accidents, Deputy Commissioner Ramban, Mohammad Alyas Khan, who is also Chairman of the District Road Safety Committee (DRSC) and District Level Monitoring Committee (DLMC), today chaired a meeting in his office chamber.
The meeting was attended by Senior Superintendent of Police Ramban Arun Gupta, SSP Traffic NHW Raja Adil Hamid, Additional SSP Mujheeb-Ur-Rehman, Chief Planning Officer Dr. Shakeeb Ahmed Rather, Project Director NHAI Shubam Yadav, ARTO Ramban Varun Bhasin, CEO Ramban, CMO Ramban, Executive Engineers of PWD and PMGSY and other concerned officers.
Threadbare discussions were held on the report presented by the Road Safety Audit Committee, with particular focus on identification of accident-prone locations, road engineering deficiencies, safety measures and corrective interventions required to minimise the risk of road accidents across the district.
The Deputy Commissioner directed all concerned departments to take time-bound remedial measures to prevent road accidents, with special emphasis on implementing the road safety recommendations identified by the committee.
He asked R&B, PMGSY, NHAI and other concerned agencies to execute all works pertaining to road safety on priority.
Stressing the need for a coordinated approach, the DC called for focused technological, engineering and enforcement interventions to significantly reduce road accidents, particularly along NH-44 and other vulnerable road stretches.
Highlighting the importance of data-driven planning, he emphasised the use of traffic and transport data for targeted safety interventions, strategic deployment of traffic personnel and timely corrective measures at identified accident-prone locations and black spots.
During the meeting, SSP Ramban suggested installation of speed guns, crash barriers, rumble strips, milestones and speed-limit signage at identified black spots and other vulnerable locations along NH-44 and other roads of the district. He also stressed the need for strict enforcement of traffic regulations and continuous monitoring of vulnerable stretches.
SSP Traffic NHW highlighted various road safety concerns and enforcement-related issues along NH-44, besides suggesting necessary measures for improving traffic management and enhancing safety for commuters.
The meeting also reviewed the implementation of the Road Accident Victim Fund. The Deputy Commissioner stressed the need for swift disposal of cases and timely assistance to eligible accident victims, directing the concerned officers to ensure that no case remains pending unnecessarily.
The DC directed all stakeholders to work in close coordination and adopt a proactive and preventive approach towards road safety, ensuring prompt implementation of corrective measures to make roads safer for commuters and pedestrians across District Ramban.
The Deputy Commissioner Ramban also disbursed a total compensation of ₹8.70 lakh under the J&K Road Accident Victim Fund.
An amount of ₹1 lakh each was provided to the legal heirs of seven deceased road accident victims, amounting to ₹7 lakh, while ₹50,000 each was disbursed to three grievously injured victims and ₹10,000 each to two minor injured victims, ensuring timely financial assistance and support to road accident victims and bereaved families in their time of distress.
