JAMMU, Sep 6 – To provide relief to daily commuters and to ease the traffic congestion on the city roads, Minister for Roads and Buildings Abdul Rehman Veeri today said that the single tube traffic on 4th bridge on river Tawi will be restored by September 12. The bridge was heavily damaged in the recent occurred flash floods after which it was closed for vehicular movement.
The Minister informed this after reviewing the status of renovation works on the 4th bridge being executed by the Jammu and Kashmir Projects Construction Corporation (JKPCC).
Minister of State for Transport, Revenue, Public Works (Roads & Buildings), Rural Development & Panchayati Raj, Agriculture Production, YSS, Sunil Kumar Sharma accompanied the Minister during his visit to the site.
Earlier the Minister chaired a meeting of officers of JKPCC to review the pace of development works being executed by the corporation.
Managing Director JKPCC Dilip Thusoo informed the Minister about the status of various projects. The Minister directed him to expedite the pace of works and ensure their timely completion. He asked the concerned officers to put in concerted efforts to create durable assets for the society.
The Minister asked the concerned to initiate the construction works of New Polytechnic Colleges at Udhampur, Kishtwar, Doda and Poonch. While reviewing the status of works at New Legislative Complex Jammu, he directed MD JKPCC to expedite the pace of works on the project.
The meeting was informed that the works on 17 bridges in Jammu Province under various schemes was taken up at an estimated cost of Rs 197.91 crore. While reviewing the status of road works, it was informed to the chair that JKPCC is executing works on 13 roads under CRF, NABARD and PMGSY at an estimated cost of Rs 218.85 Crore. A total of 147 works of Health & Medical, Education, Technical Education, R&B and other departments have been taken up by the corporation in Jammu Province at an estimated cost of Rs 1751.12 crore for which 829.88 crore had already been released.
‘There should be no unnecessary delay in completing the projects as they are linked with the development of the people in one or other way, the Minister said adding that the corporation has a team of experienced engineers whose services should be utilized properly for achieving the developmental goals.
Abdul Rehman Veeri said that the people have huge expectations especially of far flung areas and that can be fulfilled with the sincere efforts of JKPCC. He also said that construction of roads and bridges is the priority of the government.
Speaking on the occasion, Minister of State Sunil Kumar Sharma directed concerned officers to gear up the men and machinery and prioritize the works on important ongoing projects and complete them in given time frame. ‘It is the duty of the corporation to complete the projects in given time and to hand over the same to the departments to make them functional’, he said.
The meeting was attended by MD JKPCC, Dilip Thusoo, Chief Engineer PWD (R&B) Alok Mengi, Superintending Engineers, Executive Engineers and concerned officers of all districts.
