Jagruk Hindustani Premier Volleyball league-2016 concludes; Speaker lauds role of army for promoting sports activities

            SAMBA MAY 19 - Jagruk Hindustani Premier Volleyball league -2016 (JHPVL), a volleyball tournament based on premier league format is being organized from April 18 to 19 May, 2016 under the aegis of Headquarters Western Command.

          The tournament was aimed at maximum participation of volleyball players from border areas of Jammu, Samba and Kathua districts in addition to perception management of local youth, reorganization of alert/vigilant populace of the border areas and better coordination and enhanced ties between populations of these regions and the Indian Army.

          Speaker Legislative Assembly, Kavinder Gupta was the chief guest while Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control, Sham Choudhary, VC Kissan Welfare Board, D.S. Chib, MLA Samba, Davender Kumar Manyal, were the guest of honour on the occasion.

          As many as,  64 teams participated in the tournament. The Phase-II is being conducted at Samba Military Station Samba from 12 to 19 May, 2016. Eight teams were divided in two pools and after league matches pool standing were Damana Sunrisers, Hiranagar Hurricanes, R.S. Pura Tigers, Samba Dare Devils and Jammu Kings, B.D. Bari Jaguars, Rajbagh Warriors and Kathua Janbaz.

          Speaking on the occasion, Speaker said that youth of Jammu and Kashmir have enormous potential which needs to be exploited and nurtured in the right direction.  He also appreciated the role of army for organizing such mega sport event which immensely helps in promoting the sports activities besides providing platform to the budding sports persons.

          Sham Choudhary while addressing the gathering said that efforts are underway to provide conducive environment to channelize energy of youth towards nation building. He said special attention is being given to provide better facilities to budding sportsperson and foster their talent so that they can compete at national and international level.   

          The final match played between Jammu Kings and B.D. Bari Jaguars in which Jammu Kings defeated B.D. Bari Jaguars.

          The chief guest also distributed trophies and prizes to the winner and runner up teams.
