Congress accused BJP leaders of lying to mislead people over issue to sabotage demand of AIIMS in Jammu

Congress accuse BJP of telling lie in J&K over AIIMS issue

Jammu, Aug 03: Reiterating the support to the ongoing bandh and agitation in Jammu over the demand for an independent institution of AIIMS, JKPCC has accused the BJP leaders of lying in order to mislead the people over the whole issue to sabotage the ongoing movement.

A meeting of senior leaders of the  Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee was held here today under the chairmanship of PCC Chief Shri Ghulam Ahmed Mir (former minister) to take stock of situation arising out of ongoing bandh and agitation for establishment of an independent institute of AIIMS, in view of the genuine need and aspiration of the people of Jammu region and the announcement of the Centre Govt. regarding sanctioning of this institution for Jammu. The meeting expressed serious concern over the attitude of the Centre and State Govt. towards the ongoing movement launched by the AIIMS Co-ordination Committee having mass support to this general cause and the public anger is because of the indifferent attitude and misleading acts and statements  by the State and Central leaders of the present Govt.

The meeting said that the announcement for  having sanctioned an AIIMS for Jammu in the Union budget presented on 28th February  this year was confirmed by PMO through Minister of State Dr. Jatinder Singh who complimented the people of Jammu Region and expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister and Finance Minister for having sanctioned this institution, realizing its need in Jammu. Howover the developments thereafter and denying this institution to Jammu Region led to unrest and a movement in this regard. Again on the eve of 72 Hrs. bandh call on 18th July, the Dy Chief Minister and other Ministers and Legislators on behalf of State and Centre Govt., gave a written commitment to the Co-ordination Committee for getting necessary orders in this regard by or before 20th July, which they miserably failed and should have stepped down on moral grounds.

Compelled by these circumstances the people of the region under the banner of AIIMS CO-ordination Committee resumed their ongoing agitation for which the State and Centre Govt. are squarely responsible for having failed to fulfill the announcement and commitment. Rather ruling leaders indulged in misleading the people by misrepresenting and twisting the facts and playing with the words to divert attention of the public from  their false and unfulfilled promise and commitment.

The meeting also lashed out at the BJP leaders for their attempt to twist facts to mix up the issue of upgradation of the Govt. Medical College  to provide Jammu Super Specialty facilities, as no AIIMS Hospital could have been sanctioned prior to the  year 2012. The  original AIIMS of 1956  which  provided only one AIIMS at Delhi, was amended by Parliament only in the year 2012 by the Congress led UPA Govt. when Shri Ghulam Nabi Azad was Union Health Minister, paving way for setting up more AIIMS institutions  in the country which belies the false and motivated campaign by the BJP leaders about any such institution having been sanctioned for Jammu during NDA regime in the year 2003. It is just a ploy to cover up their own failure to fulfill their announcement and commitment as part of mudslinging campaign and to sabotage the movement. The meeting extended full support to the ongoing movement and asked the Govt. to immediately concede the demand for independent AIMS for Jammu Region to end the ongoing unrest.

Addressing the meeting the PCC Chief Mr. G.A. Mir strongly condemned the repressive and undemocratic modes being adopted by the Govt. and the administration and the coercive methods by the frustrated BJP leaders over the peaceful and voluntary bandh and protests by the people over the issue.

Mr. Mir said that present PDP-BJP dispensation has deepened the wedge between the two regions by their mishandling of the sensitive issues and failure to respect the regional aspirations, due to their inherent contradictions of ideology and tug of war to score points. He said that it reflects total lack of co-ordination between the coalition partners. He said the recent statements of the Central and State leaders over the issue of AIIMS has created further confusions in both regions rather than resolving the issue

The meeting was attended by  Sham Lal Sharma, Mula Ram, Raman Bhalla, Kanta Bhan, Balwan Singh, Yogesh Sawhney, Shabir Ahmed Khan, Manjeet Singh, Rajnish Sharma, Vikram Malhotra, Manmohan Singh, Indu Pawar, Shashi Sharma, Shamsher Singh and Neeraj Kundan
