Medical Suptd warns Doctors of tough actions for unauthorized absence or failure to respond to emergency calls

Bandipora Oct 16: Medical Superintendent, District Hospital Bandipora has directed all consultants posted at the hospital to remain stationed within the prescribed limits and warned that unauthorised absence or failure to respond to emergency calls could invite administrative or disciplinary action.

The order added that District Hospital Bandipora functions as the First Referral Unit for the district, catering to emergency cases, critical care, obstetric and surgical services, besides other specialist referrals from peripheral health institutions.

It added the availability of specialist consultants was essential for responding promptly to medical emergencies, including mass casualty incidents and unforeseen eventualities.

The consultants have been directed not to leave the prescribed station limits without prior written permission from the competent authority, except when proceeding on duly sanctioned leave or authorised official duty.

The order further requires all consultants to remain accessible on their registered mobile numbers and respond promptly to emergency calls from the hospital administration, the Emergency Department or concerned duty officers, in accordance with applicable emergency duty and on-call arrangements.

It warned that if a consultant leaves the station without authorisation and an emergency occurs, resulting in a delay, denial or compromise of essential medical care, the concerned consultant would be held accountable for any lapse established after examination of the facts.

Such cases would be reported to the competent authority for appropriate action under the applicable service and disciplinary rules & it further said that unauthorised absence, violation of station instructions or failure to discharge assigned emergency responsibilities would invite appropriate administrative or disciplinary action after following the prescribed procedure.
