Jammu, Sep 23: The Special Operations Group (SOG), Jammu, has arrested three alleged members of the Khauf gang, including Karanjit Singh alias “Gugga,” who was wanted in connection with 13 FIRs. Karanjit Singh, son of Arjun Singh and a resident of Dablehar, Tehsil R.S. Pura, was apprehended from Delhi during an operation conducted by the SOG Jammu.
He had 13 FIRs pending against him. He is an accused in the Gataroo murder case and has been named in several other cases involving allegations of attempt to murder, assault, rioting, criminal intimidation and possession of illegal weapons. Karanjit Singh had earlier escaped from the R.S. Pura Observation Home along with two Pakistani inmates.
During the escape, police personnel on duty were allegedly assaulted and injured in firing inside Observation Home. Accordingly, FIR 39/2026 was registered by police in RS Pura. During the same operation, two other alleged associates of the gang were also arrested from Delhi.
The arrested persons have been identified as: * Naresh Kumar alias “Major”, son of Kamal Kumar, resident of Arnia. He is associated with the gang and has been involved in cases relating to violent assault, rioting and illegal possession of weapons. He is also stated to be a close associate of absconder Sunil Kumar alias “Gokul.” * Rahul Kumar alias “Sundi”, son of Bishan Dass, resident of Makhanpur, Bishnah.
He is involved in a case relating to the alleged smuggling of narcotics into jail premises and has been booked under relevant provisions of the NDPS Act and the Prisons Act. The arrests are part of the ongoing efforts of Jammu Police and the SOG to trace absconders and investigate the activities of organised criminal networks.
Further investigation is underway, and police said that additional arrests may follow based on the evidence emerging during the investigation.
