Mumbai, Sep 20: Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe has raised questions over the large differences between the purchase prices and MRPs of medical supplies in hospitals.
He has called for greater price transparency for patients.
According to Mundhe, a Private Hospital purchased an IV set for ₹11.05, while its MRP was ₹325.
Similarly, a syringe purchased for ₹6.75 had an MRP of ₹57.20, while a catheter bought for ₹29.41 had an MRP of ₹310.
Wide gap between purchase price and MRP according to the FDA commissioner, patients have limited options to verify the actual prices of medical products and generally have to pay the amount listed on their hospital bills.
He said the issue is not only the price difference but also the lack of adequate information and transparency for patients.
Based on a Maharashtra FDA survey, a review of the differences between purchase prices and MRPs of medical products has been recommended to the Department of Pharmaceuticals and the National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA) & following which NPPA examining margins.
According to the report, the National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority is examining how much margin is being added by manufacturers and intermediaries in the medical supply chain.
Company documents and price lists are being compared with data from the Maharashtra FDA survey.
Similar complaints have reportedly also emerged from Punjab, Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu & other states/UT's but FDAs are still seems sleeping over the loot on innocents?
Let us now wait & watch, how & when Govt act on such a big & proved loot & need of the day that at least 50% IAS Officers should act like Mundhey to save innocents from such huge loots by concerned looters?
