INDORE, Sep 18: On the final day of a Press Information Bureau (PIB)-organised media tour of Madhya Pradesh, a delegation of journalists from Jammu visited the Holy Omkareshwar Jyotirlinga and the 88 MW Omkareshwar Floating Solar Plant on the Omkareshwar Reservoir.
The fourth Jyotirlinga among the twelve Jyotirlingas of Bhagwan Shiva is Omkareshwar. The glory of Omkareshwar is mentioned in ancient scriptures like the Skanda Purana, Shiva Purana, and Vayu Purana.
Omkareshwar Jyotirlinga is situated on the northern bank of the Narmada River in Madhya Pradesh, about 77 km from Indore.
Omkareshwar Floating Solar Project in Omkareshwar takes one from Historical and holy Omkareshwar Jyotirlinga to Engineering marvel.
Omkareshwar Floating Solar Project is located in the Omkareshwar Floating Solar Park on river Narmada in Khandwa, Madhya Pradesh.
During the visit, Station Head Shri Jitendra Kumar Sahoo briefed the media delegation on the salient features of India’s first floating solar plant and its 88 MW generation capacity.
He explained the functioning of the facility and highlighted various aspects of generating solar power through floating photovoltaic technology installed on the reservoir.
It is the largest floating solar park in India. The project aims to significantly reduce carbon emissions by 2.3 lakh tons of CO2,which is line with India's goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2070.
One of the largest floating solar projects in Asia is having an impressive capacity of 600 MW. A brilliant example in India is the floating solar power plant of Omkareshwar built on the Omkareshwar Dam in Madhya Pradesh with an area of 12 sq. km.
Using floating photovoltaic panels, the plant benchmarks efficiency through the use of surface area over the water body to generate electricity, converting hitherto unused surfaces into active power sources, minimizes water evaporation.
This gives an environmental advantage over other economical methods.
