Jammu Police attaches Chandigarh property in drug trafficking case

Jammu, May 8: What initially appeared to be a routine narcotics arrest after the recovery of a small quantity of heroin has now unfolded into a major financial investigation, with Jammu Police attaching an illegally acquired property worth nearly ₹93 lakh in Chandigarh.

The case originated on January 14, 2026, when a naka alert party of Police Station Bagh-e-Bahu intercepted and apprehended accused Arun Singh, son of Pal Singh, resident of Rajeev Nagar, Narwal, Jammu. During the search, police recovered 5.61 grams of heroin from his possession, following which FIR No. 02/2026 under the NDPS Act was registered at Police Station Bagh-e-Bahu.

Though
the recovery was comparatively small, investigators pursued the case aggressively, suspecting a larger narcotics network operating behind the scenes. During sustained investigation, police uncovered substantial financial transactions and money trails connected to narcotic drug trafficking activities.

The probe eventually led investigators to Chandigarh, where it surfaced that co-accused Rishi Singh, also son of Pal Singh and originally a resident of Rajeev Nagar, Narwal, presently residing in Chandigarh, had allegedly acquired a residential property using proceeds generated through illicit narcotics trade.

Acting on the findings of the financial investigation, a South Zone Police team from Police Station Bagh-e-Bahu on Thursday attached the immovable property located at House No. 739, Sector 38-A, Chandigarh. Police said the property has an assessed market value of approximately ₹92.70 lakh and was identified as being directly linked to proceeds generated through drug trafficking connected with the instant FIR.

The attachment action was carried out under the relevant provisions of the NDPS Act pertaining to identification and attachment of illegally acquired properties derived from narcotic drug trafficking. Jammu Police reiterated its commitment to dismantling narcotics networks not only through arrests and recoveries, but also by targeting the financial infrastructure and illegally amassed assets of drug traffickers.
