Female Police Sub-Inspector arrested red-handed for accepting Rs 15,000 bribe

New Delhi, Dec 09: A Delhi Police Sub-Inspector, Namita apprehended red-handed at Sangam Vihar police station for allegedly demanding bribe of Rs 2 lakh. She reportedly pressured a complainant in a sexual assault case, seeking the sum to expedite her daughter's case.

Vigilance officials caught her accepting an initial installment of Rs 15,000.

According to police, the woman approached the vigilance unit and alleged that sub-inspector Namita, the investigating officer in the Posco case, had been putting pressure on her to pay Rs 2 lakh to ensure the case proceeded in her favour.

She further alleged the officer warned that the investigation would be slowed down or weakened if the payment was not made.

Police said a preliminary inquiry was initiated, after which vigilance personnel laid a trap inside the Sangam Vihar police station. The woman was instructed to visit the sub-inspector's room at a fixed time with Rs 15,000, said to be the first instalment of the alleged bribe.

When the complainant met SI Namita, the officer allegedly reiterated her demand and asked her to place the cash inside a file on her table. Vigilance officials, who were waiting nearby, entered the room after the handover.

The Sub-Inspector was caught red-handed, and the Rs 15,000 was recovered, police said.
