Anantnag, Oct 17: The Deputy Chief Minister, Surinder Choudhary, who was on his way to Jammu after completing official engagements in South Kashmir, was stuck in a massive traffic jam for several hours at Mir Bazar in Anantnag today.
Owing to the heavy traffic congestion, the Deputy Chief Minister had to walk nearly four kilometres on foot to move ahead, as vehicles remained stranded for hours on the Srinagar–Jammu National Highway.
Taking serious note of the situation, the Deputy Chief Minister expressed deep concern over the recurring traffic mess on this vital road link and the inconvenience caused to commuters and transporters.
He directed the concerned authorities to take immediate steps for effective traffic management and ensure smooth movement of vehicles in the area.
He further called for close coordination among the Traffic Police, District Administration, and National Highway Authority to identify bottlenecks, regulate vehicular flow, and expedite necessary widening and maintenance works.
