
Jammu, June 06: The Department of English GCW Parade organized a program “Towards an Eco-Critical Awareness” to mark the World Environment Day under the patronage of the college principal Dr. R.K. Tickoo.
The program involved showcasing of short documentaries related to issues like the impact of global warming, the depleting forest cover on the planet and the impact of plastic waste on the environment.
A group discussion on immediate environmental concerns in Jammu region and the possible efforts to handle them followed the documentary viewing.
The principal, students of the PG department and members of the faculty including Dr. Avinash Gupta, HOD English Dr. Ritu Magotra, Dr. Renu Angurana, Dr. Seema Malpotra, Prof. Menaka Thappa, Dr. Aksa, Prof. Reena Bhagat, Prof. Anuradha Kalsi, Dr. Sukriti Sharma, Dr. Iesha Sharma and Dr Sumit Sharma were involved in plantation of trees and succulents like Neem, Ficus, Jade and Aloe Vera on the campus.
The students vowed to adopt the said plants and see to their health henceforth.
They also pledged to see to proper management and disposal of waste material in surrounding areas and to avoid use of plastics, adopting environment friendly options instead.
