NIA raids at 15 places including a Doctor in J&K in JeI terror funding case

Jammu, Feb 10: National Investigation Agency conducted raids at 15 locations across Jammu and Kashmir as part of its crackdown on the proscribed Jamaat-e-Islami in a terror funding case.

The raids in the twin capitals of Srinagar and Jammu along with Budgam in central and Kulgam and Anantnag in south Kashmir led to the seizure of incriminating documents and digital devices connected with the activities of JeI and its related Trusts and more than Rs 20 lakh.

However, official sources said two persons were also detained in Jammu for questioning during the raids targeting a private school and its functionaries including chairman at Bagh-e-Bahu and Belicharana.

The NIA raided the residence of Dr Shabir Hussain ,a resident of Bandari Mohalla in Kishtwar, presently putting up at Shahabad Colony in Bagh-e-Bahu area.

It also carried out search at the residence of Abdul Majeed Rather at Gujjar Basti, Belicharana. Many items including study material, electronic gadgets etc were seized during the raids.

In Srinagar, the NIA teams along with Police and CRPF raided the house of Javid Ahmad Haroon at Farooq Colony Bemina & also raided the houses of Mohammad Rafiq Wani of Nudreshi Colony Muslimabad Bemina working in Welfare Education Institute Bemina and house of Javed Hakeem at Iqbal Abad Bemina.

Three mobile phones, financial documents and identity card of Hakeem were seized. He was later taken to Rahat Manzil Yateem Trust where the receipts of the Trust have also been seized.

He was asked to report to the NIA office in Srinagar soon after the raid was over. The NIA also raided the house of Abdul Majeed Wani son of Ghulam Mohiuddin Wani of Balgarden, Srinagar.

The raids were also conducted at the house of Mohammad Iqbal Karada son of Ghulam Hassan Karada of Shahi Hamdani Lane Ahmad Nagar.

In Kulgam, house of Sheikh Ghulam Hassan of Tarigam and Sayar Ahmad Reshi of Kahrote were searched by the NIA & NIA recovered incriminating documents during the raids.

It added that the residences of former Jamaat chief Sheikh Ghulam Hassan and another leader, Sayar Ahmad Reshi, in Kulgam district were among those raided.
