Supreme Court Rules That Charge Sheet Can’t Be Put In Public Domain

New Delhi, Jan 20: A bench of Justices M R Shah and C T Ravikumar of Supreme Court held that chargesheet filed in criminal cases by the police and other investigative agencies cannot be put in public domain for free access, saying it is not a public document.

Dismissing a Public Interest Litigation seeking free public access to chargesheets the bench said that uploading a chargesheet would be contrary to the provisions of the Code of Criminal Procedure.
