JAMMU, Sep 19: The Jammu and Kashmir Electrical Engineering Graduates Association [JKEEGA] held a peaceful protest on 09-09-2023 both in Srinagar at PDD Complex and Gladini Jammu wherein protest was attended by large numbers of engineers. The General Council of JKEEGA during protest decided to give a notice of 14 days to Government and conveyed that if basic issues like promotions, regularization of engineers and disbursement of salary on time are not resolved by Govt then the power engineers shall be forced to hold a protest again for 48hrs on 25th & 26th of September 2023.
In press conference’s held simultaneously at Jammu & Srinagar JKEEGA President Er. Sachin Tickoo and General Secretary Er Pirzada Hidayatulla said that the department is facing toughest time as inaction of successive administrations on the core issues like regular promotions, filling of vacancies, recruitment of Junior Engineers and even disbursing salaries on time has led to chaos in the power corporations.
Highlighting the issues, Er. Pirzada said non seriousness of the Govt. towards power department employees can be gauged from the fact that at the level of Ex. Engineer, 62 posts (50% of sanctioned strength) are lying vacant at present and promotion file of AEE to XeN level is being tossed from one table to another from last one year. In addition to this scores of posts from Chief Engineer to Junior Engineer level are vacant which is hampering the functioning of department badly. To add to worries of engineers & employee who are working with reduced work force, every month salaries are disbursed in the 3rd week of month thus leading to delays in settling debts, paying for school fees of children and above all meeting daily needs. Further it was briefed that if basic issues of regular promotions and salary are delayed without a reason, how can department work smoothly and services to citizens be provided hassle free.
Er Sachin Tickoo while highlighting the massive transformation in power sector of J&K said that if concrete steps are not initiated for immediate redressal of basic issues it would become impossible to achieve standards and targets set by Government for development of power sector of modern Jammu and Kashmir and badly hamper public services. It was also briefed that JKEEGA have been continuously following the resolution of HR issues & time and again assurances for resolution of all issues are made but to no avail. The significant issues of Regularization, Timely promotions against vacant posts, and recruitment at the Junior Engineer and disbursement of salaries on time have been lingering for quite a long time now. The fact is that the entire Engineering fraternity of JKPDD presently working in different Power Corporations feel morally down while seeing sizeable progress in terms of HR issues of sister concern wings like PWD, Irrigation & Flood Control and MED.
JKEEGA urges Hon’ble LG Shri Manoj Sinha to intervene so that issues that are marring JKPDD are addressed in a time bound manner and Engineers would not have to resort to protests for basic issues.
