Excise Com reviews performance of E&T Deptt. in Jammu div

 JAMMU,Sep15:The Excise Commissioner, Tsering Angchuk today reviewed the performance of Excise and Taxation Department (E&TD) in Jammu division here at a meeting of senior functionaries.

The over-all growth of the revenue receipts of the department for the month of August and total revenue realized till August for the financial year 2015-16 were reviewed and examined critically.

It was noticed in the meeting that the total revenue realized by the Excise Department during August 2015 has been recorded to the tune of Rs. 98.75 crore as against Rs 88.09 crore realized during August, 2014. 

Upto the month of August, 2015, the department has realized an amount of Rs 458.36 crore as against Rs. 415.38 crore realized during the corresponding period of last year.

On Eradication and Enforcement activity, the Excise Commissioner appreciated the comprehensive drive launched by the Excise Department to arrest the menace of illegal smuggling of liquor, illicit distillation and other violations of the J&K Excise Act, 1958, especially over charging. It was appreciated by the Excise Commissioner, J&K that during the last three months, nakas were laid on various national highways to check the Toll evasion and smuggling of illicit liquor, which led to recovery of an amount of Rs.1.77 lakh as fine from the toll evaders during the period.

 Simultaneously, more than 260 raids have been conducted across Jammu division to arrest the menace of illegal smuggling of liquor from other States, illicit distillation of liquor and other violations. 

During the meeting, all the officers of the Department were impressed upon to keep strict vigil round the clock to improve revenue realization and work hard to generate revenue for the State.

All the Deputy Excise Commissioners and Excise and Taxation Officers were present in the meeting.
