Mr. Mir and other senior  congress leaders expressed their heartfelt condolences and prayed for peace to the departed souls. They expressed their deep sympathies with the victim families. They enquired about the injured and prayed for the early recovery of the injured persons in the  Pak shelling.

On this occasion, PCC Chief expressed deep concern over the escalation in  the border firing and targeting of the civilian population by Pakisatan in the recent months and regretted that people all along the J&K borders and Loc are witnessing the most difficult periods in the recent years.

He expressed deep shock over various casualties of human being and loss of cattle and  other properties and hardships being faced for cultivations by the  residents  and said that there is something seriously wrong in our policy to deal with the current situation.

He referred to the recent visit of AICC Vice President Shri Rahul Gandhi to the State during which he visited the border areas of Balakote and said that the  plight of the people all along border is very shocking as they are constantly living in fear of death and destruction and have no option to face this situation.

Responding to the issues of the border residents, Mir favoured early steps to restore calm and normalcy on the borders so that prevailing atmosphere is contained. He also demanded adequate enhancement in the relief/compensation to those killed and permanently disabled in the firing. He said that the previous  NC- Congress Govt. has conceded the demand for job to a family member of  border firing victim and there is need to consider the demand of reservation like ALC to border residents on Indo-Pak border, besides accommodations/plots in safer zones for each family and  provision of life & crop insurance to them.

The Congress leaders  praised the velour and sacrifices of the border residents who are unarmed soldiers of our  country despite very difficult living conditions for them. Mr. Mir said that hurling threats at each other would not yield  fruits and asked Pakistan to desist from indulging in War-  rehtories and instead co-operate in restoring peace and normalcy on the borders for  creating congenial atmosphere for the talks, while adding that meaningful dialogue is nor possible in the  midst  of shelling and sponsoring terrorist activities in the State.

Mr. Mir took a dig at the  Modi Govt. and BJP for exploiting the isolated incidents at the borders during UPA regime and launched a loud campaign for domestic politics but unfortunately the borders did not witness calm and peace during the short stint of 15 months of Modi rule and people have suffered the worst during this period.
