Excise sleuths conduct 240 raids in Jammu

         

JAMMU,Sep 09: To arrest the menace of overcharging by the wine shops, Deputy Excise Commissioner, Executive Jammu conducted extensive raids in Jammu division.Three teams were constituted to conduct simultaneous raids. Team of Eradication and Enforcement wing under the command of Excise & Taxation Officer, Yudhvir Padha alongwith other members conducted raids during which eight wine shops, which were found over charging from the customers by the inspecting team, were booked for violation of the J&K Excise Act, 1958.

 

 

Another Team headed by Excise & Taxation Officer, City Excise Range, North, Jammu Virinder Singh Pawar conducted raids in the Pragwal and Amb Gharota  and booked two wine shops    M/s. Vishala Gupta Wine Shop, Pragwal and M/s. Rakesh Wine Shop, Amb Gharota, for the same offence.  

 

In Udhampur, a team headed by Nareh Kumar Koul, Excise & Taxation Officer, Udhampur-Reasi Excise Range booked M/S Suriner Wine Shop, Manthal for overcharging from customers.

 

The Department has initiated multi-pronged strategy to arrest the menace of overcharging by the wine shops and violation of the guidelines by the Bars.

 

Inspection teams have been activated and to tight noose around those who violate the law and the standard norms.Meanwhile the department conducted more than 240 raids in Jammu division to arrest the menace of illegal smuggling of liquor from other States, illicit distillation of liquor and other violations.  In the process twenty one persons were arrested and cases have been lodged in various Courts of Law against the accused persons for illicit distillation of liquor and other ancillary offences.

 

More than two tons of Lahan has been destroyed in the entire Jammu Division by the Excise sleuths who have conducted surprise raids in various areas to arrest the menace of illicit distillation. About 45 bottles of illicit liquor have also been destroyed on spot. The department has, since June 2015 booked twenty eight wine shops for overcharging and five Bar for committing violations of standard practices and norms to be adhered by them. The habitual offenders shall be dealt under Section 56 (2) of the J&K excise Act according to which previously convicted for two times of an offence under the Act shall be liable to double punishment for every such subsequent offences.

 

Two new Excise ranges have been created to ease the Excise business.A new toll post has been established on Bhaderwah-Chamba Road at Nalthi Bhaderwah. On the front of Toll Tax evasion, since June 2015, six nakas were laid on different National Highways during which several vehicles were checked and fine was imposed on toll tax evaders.
