e-PDS key step towards greater transparency: Zulfkar Ali

SRINAGAR, Oct 04: Minister for Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs (FCS&CA), Choudhary Zulfkar Ali, today said that the Government is fully committed to create a transparent system, and putting electronic Public Distribution System (e-PDS) into place is a step in this direction.

Speaking during a review meeting, the Minister said that present dispensation is striving hard to create a transparent system where consumers are made well aware with its functioning. He added that putting e-PDS into place is a step towards the same as it would enhance transparency in FCS&CA functioning, especially in its distribution mechanism.

Stressing the need for making e-PDS system operational at an earliest, he said that the system would automatically increase transparency in the department’s work as all the information related the department, especially information related to its distribution of food items would be made public by putting it on the portal.

Mr. Zulfkar Ali said that e-PDS would make employees of the department more accountable. He said consumer satisfaction is Government’s top priority.

If a consumer feels he is not getting allotted food supply under National Food Security Act (NFSA), or under Mufti Mohammad Syed Food Entitlement (MMSFE) scheme, or faces any issue, he can lodge a complaint which would be addressed at an earliest, he added.

Secretary FCS&CA Shafiq Raina, Director FCS&CA Tassaduq Jeelani, Director Finance, and others attended the review meeting.
