JAMMU, May 31:  In order to facilitate industries in delivering quality products to the consumers by adopting standards in manufacturing process, Union Minister for Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution Ram Vilas Paswan today inaugurated new branch office and building of Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) in Jammu.

Minister of State in the PMO, Dr. Jitendra Singh, Minister for Consumer Affairs & Public Distribution, Ch. Zulfkar Ali, Minister for Industries and Commerce Chander Parkash Ganga, Member Parliament Jugal Kishore Sharma, Director General BIS, Alka Panda were also present in the function.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Paswan said the BIS office in the state will give impetus to the PM’s ‘Make in India’ campaign by enabling local manufacturers to adopt better manufacturing practices as per Indian Standards.

The Minister informed that the Government of India is going to make the Hallmark mandatory so that consumers interest are safeguarded and the regulatory bodies will be empowered for checking the quality of the products and take requisite action against the violators.

Stressing on taking adequate measures to protect consumer rights, the Union Minister asked the State Government to empower consumer courts. On the request of CAPD Minister, Mr. Paswan directed DG BIS to provide similar provisions to J&K on the patterns of North-Eastern states. In order to check the leakages in distribution system, Union Minister asked CAPD Department to make more technological interventions. Appreciating the State Government for efficiently implementing the NFSA, Mr. Paswan assured the State Government of all possible support in making NFSA a success.

Union Minister of State in the PMO, Dr Jitendra Singh said that the long standing demand of the local industry for establishment of BIS office in the state has been fulfilled which will lead to the general up gradation of the local industry in ensuring quality of manufacturing goods. He highlighted various initiatives of Central Government for empowering youth under Startup India, Standup India Mission, promotion of local entrepreneurs under Make in India mission, Concept of Maximum Governance-Minimum Government, Self attestation of documents etc.

Dr. Singh said that simplification of forms and procedures has been introduced by Central Govt and urged the State Govt to also adopt the same.

Expressing gratitude to Mr. Paswan for opening the maiden BIS office in Jammu, Ch. Zulfkar Ali said that it will benefit the industrialists and people of the state. He also thanked Dr. Jitendra Singh for taking up the developmental issues with the Centre.

Ch. Zulfkar Ali informed the gathering that inspite of many obstacles the state Govt has successfully implemented NFSA for the betterment of the masses.

Speaking on the occasion, Minister for Industries and Commerce, Chander Parkash Ganga said that the traders and consumers will be benefited by the opening of BIS office. He appealed the industrialists to get themselves registered with BIS and manufacture quality products.

Member Parliament Jugal Kishore Sharma also congratulated the people of Jammu for having BIS office.

Earlier, Ram Vilas Paswan and Dr. Jitendra Singh flagged off Shobha Yatra to commemorate Tri-Century celebrations of Baba Banda Singh Bahadur from Hari Niwas.

On the occasion, Annual Project Report of CAPD Department was released by the dignitaries.

Secretary CAPD Shafiq Ahmad Raina, Deputy Commissioner Samba, Sheetal Nanda, SSP Samba Joginder Singh, Director CAPD G.S Chib, MD SIDCO Amit Sharma, senior officers of CAPD, Industries and Legal Metrology department and industrialists were present on the occasion.
