SRINAGAR, May 13: Minister for Public Works and Parliamentary Affairs, Mr. Abdul Rehman Veeri Friday said that government is committed to ensure sustainable infrastructural development across the State especially in Srinagar City, adding that the vision of former Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed for developing Srinagar City on modern lines would be realized.
The Minister said this while touring Srinagar City to assess the pace of progress of some vital bridge and road projects.
The Minister was accompanied by Ex-Minister and MLA Sonawar, Mr. Mohammad Ashraf Mir, District Development Commissioner, Srinagar, Dr. Farooq Ahmed Lone, Chief Engineers of R&B, Mechanical Engineering, MD, JKPCC and a team of senior officers.
During his tour, Mr. Veeri inspected road widening of National Highway from DPS Athwajan to Pantha Chowk crossing. He gave on the spot directions to the concerned Engineers for removing the bottlenecks and to complete the road widening and drainage projects within a fortnight. He asked them to work on war footing basis keeping in view the heavy traffic movement in the area. He also gave directive for taking effective measures to ensure smooth traffic moment.
Mr. Veeri asked Chief Engineer R&B to start macadamization work on the said patch of road within 2 days.
The Minister also inspected Mahjoor Chowk and directed Chief Engineer R&B for re-designing of the Chowk in such away so that traffic would ply smoothly. He also directed beautification of the Chowk as it is the gate of the Srinagar City.
Mr. Veeri directed Superintendent Engineer, UEED for completion of drainage near Zewan Chowk by 1st June.
The Minister inspected construction work of Wethpora-Soitang Bridge coming up at a cost of Rs 14 crore. He was informed that Rs 9 crore have so for been expended on the execution of the bridge.
The Minister directed the MD, JKPCC to expedite the work and ensure its completion by December this year. He said the bridge, when completed, will help to further smoothen the traffic enlivenment in Srinagar City.
