Cross country run flagged off in Srinagar

SRINAGAR, APRIL 29: The Deputy Commissioner Srinagar Dr. Farooq Ahmad Lone today flagged-off inter district provincial level cross country run for Boys near SK Cricket Stadium Sonwar Srinagar.

The cross country run was organized after a gap of a decade by the Department of Youth Services and Sports, Kashmir. Hundreds of students from 10 districts of the valley participated in the run which started from Sonwar and culminated at Nishat gardens.

All the participants who participated in the run were drawn from their respective districts on the basis of their performances exhibited by them in the competitions held at School, zonal and district levels.

In Under-19 category Yawar Yunis representing Shopian district secured first position, Umar Farooq from Srinagar district secured 2nd position while Adil Ahmad from Budgam district bagged third prize.

In Under-17 category Umar Hamid from Budgam secured first position, Shoib Ahmad from Ganderbal and Mohammad Sikander Kalla from Shopian secured second and third positions respectively.

In Under-14 category Shahid Ahmad Mir of District Srinagar secured first position while Basharat Ahmad Mir of district Srinagar and Rais Ahmad Mir of district Budgam bagged second and third positions respectively.

At the end of the race, the DC Srinagar distributed prizes amongst the winners.

Speaking on the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner applauded the efforts of Youth Services and Sports Department Kashmir for organising such event after a long time and urged them to make it as a regular feature.

He said every student should take part in one or the other sport and make every effort to excel in that. He urged youth services and sports department to identify talent among the students and provide every support to the students to chase their dream.
