Udhampur Administration provides relief, accommodation to stranded passengers


DDMA Udh provides relief, accommodation to stranded passengers

UDHAMPUR, MARCH 19 - District Disaster Management Authority, Udhampur, provided relief to more than one thousand stranded passengers, drivers and cleaners of various passenger vehicles stranded across Udhampur due to closing of Jammu-Srinagar National Highway at various locations.

A ten member team constituted by district administration, comprised of Asstt Commissioner Revenue, DySP Traffic, Asstt Director CAPD, Tehsildar Udhampur, Secretary Red Cross Society, CEO Municipal Council and other officials has been engaged in providing assistance and accommodation to stranded passengers. Potable drinking water, eatables, K.Oil, milk packets etc were provided to stranded passengers and also drivers of load carriers.

Meanwhile DDC Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary along with Addl DC A S Rana, ExEn PWD Rajesh Gupta, Project Director NHAI A U Mishra, Tehsildar Udhampur Sapna Kotwal and other officials inspected the landslide spots on Jakheni-Chenani stretch of national highway and machinery was deployed for expeditious clearance of road. A stretch of around 200 meters of road on NH which faced sinking has been kept open for only one way traffic and staff has been deployed for monitoring and traffic management.

A team of Traffic Police headed by DySP Traffic has been stationed at Jakheni for proper traffic management and guiding the stranded vehicles. A group of more than 100 youth bound for Doda and Kishtwar were facilitated for onward journey in view of examination scheduled for tomorrow, after clearance from executing agencies about expected clearance of road.

More than 100 people including a team of 21 sports women have been provided accommodation at various government establishments in Udhampur for stay in view of road blockade due to landslides. 

General public has been advised to adhere to weather advisories and plan their journey accordingly. Stranded passengers were advised to call on 272727 helpline number for any kind of assistance.
