BJP suspends leader Gulab Singh Kirar named in Vyapam scam by CBI

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)  has suspended party leader Gulab Singh Kirar, who has been named in an FIR filed by the CBI in the Vyapam scam in Madhya Pradesh.

Kirar, a member of the state backward classes commission, was removed from his post and the primary membership of the BJP on Thursday.

Kirar has been booked by the CBI for allegedly securing admission for his son Shakti Singh Kirar in a medical college. Earlier, the special task force (STF) had also registered a case against Kirar and his son.

Hailing from Bhind, he belonged to the Kirar community, the same as that of chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan.

A 40-member CBI on Monday started investigation in the Vyapam scam and registered its first cases on Wednesday, focussing on a clutch of medical examinations held between 2009 and 2011 that an allegedly compromised state-level probe did not investigate.

The cases registered by the CBI were in connection with the three main examinations that were allegedly rigged -- pre-medical test (PMT) in 2010, PMT in 2009 and pre-PG (medical) entrance in 2011.
