JAMMU, Feb 20: The Speaker, Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly Mr. Kavinder Gupta today stressed that the need of the hour is to generate awareness about importance of girl child in the society and addressing the issue of gender imbalance and discrimination against them.
Mr Gupta was speaking during an awareness camp organized by Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) mission of Social Welfare Department at Sanjay Nagar under the mission “Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao”.
He said generating mass awareness about the various programmes launched by the centre and state government for the welfare of girl child is important so that they can avail maximum benefit of these schemes.
On the occasion, the concerned officers highlighted various schemes including Indira Gandhi Martitev Sehyog Yojna, (IGMSY), Rajeev Gandhi Scheme for Empowerment of Adolescent Girls (SABLA), State Marriage Assistance Scheme For Orphan Girls, Sukanay Samriddhi Account Yojna, Pre and Post Matric Scholarships and stressed upon people to avail maximum benefits of these schemes .
The Speaker also felicitated the girls who excelled in academics and asked them to put in dedicated efforts to achieve success in every field. On the occasion, a skit was also presented by the Anganwadi Workers to highlight the message of save girl child which was highly appreciated by the dignitaries and audience. SDM, South Jammu, Deputy Director, ICDS, Social Welfare Department, Social Welfare Officer, Gandhi Nagar, Senior Leaders, Baldev Singh Blowria, Harbans Choudhary, Vinay Gupta, Kulwant Singh Bhati, Ex-Corporators, officers of Social Welfare Department, Anganwadi workers ,supervisors and locals were present on the occasion.
