SRINAGAR, Feb 15: Advisor to Governor Mr Parvez Dewan today asked the officials of various departments to take innovative steps to redress the problems faced by people in the winter season.
The Advisor was taking a review meeting of various Departments at Srinagar.
Mr Dewan asked the Principal Government Dental College and JKPCC to expedite the projects coming up at Shireen Bagh that will help the general public. The meeting was informed that the multi level car parking at the college would be inaugurated within a week and three other projects including main building block of hospital, Boys hostel and Girls hostel would be finished by the next week.
The officials of Drug and Food Control requested Advisor for handing over their building at Dalgate on a priority basis. The meeting was informed that another building of Drug and Food Control department located at Bemina is yet to be restored after the floods of 2014. The building needs Rs 35 lakh for renovation.
Chief Engineer, Roads and Buildings (R&B) informed the meeting that post floods, Department has done high quality macadamisation of 1400 kms of road length. The meeting also discussed the status of four laning of Dalgate Boulevard road and shifting of Batamaloo Bus Adda to Parimpora, which will go a long way in decongesting the Srinagar city ahead of Durbar Move.
Director School Education Kashmir (DSEK) informed the meeting that the Super 50 coaching programme has been a grand success. The Advisor asked the DSEK to explore the modality to change the timing of summer vacations in such a way that it coincides with harvesting season thus helping rural community. Mr Dewan stressed on the need to increase the quality of spoken English among students. “We were one of the first states to start English medium education and now it is the time to move towards making students fluent in spoken English,” said the Advisor. The meeting decided to explore the ways to get teachers from British Council who can train the teachers in Kashmir.
Director, Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution (CA&PD) apprised the Advisor about the implementation of National Food Security Act (NFSA) in the Kashmir valley. The meeting was informed that the Act is aimed at streamlining the ration distribution among the population particularly the people of lower strata of the society. The Advisor directed the officials to take innovative steps for providing help to the people.
Principal Government Dental College, Chief Engineer R&B, DSEK, Director CA&PD and other officials participated in the meeting.
