JK’s towns to get new look under AMMRUT: Dy CM

JAMMU, Nov 27: Deputy Chief Minister, Dr Nirmal Kumar Singh today said the towns of Jammu and Kashmir would be developed on modern lines to bring their amenities at par with best urban standards. He said the implementation of centrally-sponsored AMMRUT Scheme would begin soon in J&K to upgrade the amenities in cities and towns.

The Deputy Minister was speaking at a review meeting convened here to discuss the status of various developmental programmes undertaken by the urban local bodies in Jammu Division.

Commissioner Secretary Housing and Urban Development Mr. Bipul Pathak, Director Urban Local Bodies Jammu, Mr. Soujanya Kumar Sharma and other senior officers of the department were present at the meeting.

Asking the officers to speed up pace of developmental initiatives in the urban sector, the Deputy Chief Minister said primary focus of the government is to ensure development of the state on modern lines so that the people get all the requisite amenities of modern day living. He said to accelerate the developmental activities in cities and towns the central government has launched the AMMRUT Scheme.

“AMMRUT would soon be taken up for implementation in all the major cities and towns of the state and it would further boost the developmental initiatives undertaken by the government to develop the state as one of the model states of the country”, he added.

The meeting was told that an amount of Rs 15 crore has been released under IDMT in Jammu division and 113 works have been taken up by the department out of which 91 have been completed. An additionality of Rs 50.33 lakh has been released for the Billawar constituency for taking up fresh works.

It was also given out that an amount of Rs 74.59 lakh has been released for undertaking restoration of Bus Stand at Billawar, renovation of Town Hall and Matador Stand at Billawar.

It was also given out that an amount of Rs 11.14 crore has also been released under IHSDP for 9 towns of the state which include, Chenani, Uri, Bhaderwah, Billawar, Dooru, Kokernag, Hajin, Leh and Reasi.
