Gwalior: Municipal Corporation's senior Engineer caught red-handed while accepting Rs. 36K Bribe but  day before Retirement

Gwalior, July 31: Lokayukta Police arrested Municipal Corporation Executive Engineer Sushil Katare while allegedly accepting a Rs 6,000 bribe, just a day before his retirement.

A contractor had accused him of demanding Rs 36,000 to clear a file, of which Rs 30,000 had already been paid.

Police laid a trap, caught him red-handed, and registered a corruption case.

According to officials, contractor had complained to the Gwalior Lokayukta that Executive Engineer Sushil Katare was demanding a Rs. 36,000 bribe to clear one of his files.

After verifying the complaint, the Lokayukta police found the allegations to be true and planned a trap. During the investigation, officials found that Katare had already accepted Rs 30,000 from the contractor on July 28.

The remaining Rs. 6,000 was to be paid.

As planned, the complainant reached the Municipal Corporation office with the remaining amount. As soon as Katare accepted the Rs. 6,000, the Lokayukta team, which was waiting nearby, caught him on the spot.

A case has been registered against him under the Prevention of Corruption Act. 

The arrest, which came just a day before Sushil Katare's retirement, created a stir among officers.

The Lokayukta police said further investigation into the case is underway.
