SRINAGAR, July 2: Justice Sanjay Dhar while upholding the conviction and sentence awarded to the accused official by the trial court said the recovery of tainted money with credible evidence of demand and acceptance of bribe, was sufficient to sustain his conviction & High Cour directed to surrender before the court of law for demanding and accepting bribe during his service & dismissed appeal of Falil Ur Rehman challenging his conviction and sentence way back in 2020 passed by the court of the Special Judge, Anti-Corruption, Srinagar under the J&K Prevention of Corruption Act.
Finding no infirmity in the trial court's findings, the High Court upheld the sentence of one year's simple imprisonment with a fine of Rs 10,000 under the Prevention of Corruption Act and six months' simple imprisonment with a fine of Rs 2,000 under Section 161 RPC, with both sentences to run concurrently.
The court directed Rehman to surrender before the trial court within three weeks to serve the remaining sentence, failing which coercive steps would be taken to secure his custody.
