Jammu, May 12: At a time when Prime Minister Narendra Modi has called upon citizens to reduce the use of petrol and diesel amid rising global energy concerns, Jammu West MLA Arvind Gupta is setting a personal example by choosing to travel in his own electric vehicle (EV) instead of using the official government vehicle allotted to him.
Known for his active public outreach and regular constituency visits, Arvind Gupta has started using his EV for official and social engagements across Jammu city. The move is being viewed as a practical message in support of clean energy, fuel conservation, and environmentally responsible public life.
Speaking to the media, Gupta said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi Ji has repeatedly emphasized the importance of energy conservation, sustainable development, and reducing dependence on fossil fuels, especially during times of global uncertainty and rising fuel demand.
“Prime Minister Narendra Modi Ji has always encouraged people to adopt a responsible lifestyle and contribute towards energy conservation. His appeal to reduce unnecessary consumption of petrol and diesel is not merely a message, but a national responsibility. As public representatives, we must lead from the front and set examples through our own actions,” said Arvind Gupta.
He further said that opting for an electric vehicle is a small but meaningful contribution towards protecting the environment and promoting sustainable mobility. “I felt it was important to personally adopt this change rather than only speak about it. If more people gradually shift towards cleaner modes of transport, it will greatly benefit the country and future generations,” he added.
Gupta also highlighted that reducing fuel consumption is closely linked with national economic interests, as lower dependence on imported fuel strengthens the country’s energy security and supports the vision of an “Aatmanirbhar Bharat.”
He appealed to citizens, especially the younger generation, to embrace eco-friendly practices in their daily lives, including the use of public transport, electric vehicles, energy-efficient appliances, and avoidance of fuel wastage.
The MLA’s gesture has received appreciation from several local residents and social activists, who described it as a positive example of leadership through action rather than symbolism. Many termed the initiative timely and relevant, particularly as discussions around climate change, pollution control, and sustainable development continue to gain importance across the country.
Observers believe that such steps by public representatives can encourage wider public awareness regarding energy conservation and inspire more people to consider environmentally conscious alternatives in their daily lives.
