RAMBAN, MARCH 30: District-Level Narco Coordination Committee (NCORD) meeting was held today at Ramban under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Ramban Mohammad Alyas Khan to review ongoing anti-narcotics measures and further strengthen coordinated efforts to curb drug abuse across the district.
Directing strict enforcement, the Deputy Commissioner asked the Drug Inspector to take effective action in close coordination with the Police Department and launch an intensive enforcement drive.
SDMs and Tehsildars were directed to submit details of Drug-Free Panchayats for cross-verification and ensure proper surveillance in such areas. He emphasized the need to identify drug abuse hotspots and adopt a coordinated strategy to tackle the menace effectively.
He called for innovative interventions and focused analysis to understand the root causes pushing youth towards substance abuse.
The Chief Education Officer was directed to activate school-level monitoring committees led by designated teachers in Middle, High and Higher Secondary Schools. The concerned officers were instructed to designate counsellors at the Panchayat level.
The District Social Welfare Officer was also asked to intensify awareness under the ‘Nasha Mukt Abhiyan’ through IEC activities in government and private schools, colleges, ITIs, Polytechnic institutes and libraries.
The Excise Department was directed to prepare an awareness plan as per the directions issued to generate awareness among the people in this regard.
Reviewing the functioning of the Addiction Treatment Facility (ATF) at District Hospital Ramban, the Deputy Commissioner directed the Chief Medical Officer to ensure proper medical care, counselling and follow-up support for rehabilitation and prevention of relapse.
Senior Superintendent of Police Ramban Arun Gupta also suggested various measures to make society drug-free and emphasized the need for joint efforts by all departments in this regard. Among others, Additional Deputy Commissioner Ramban Varunjeet Singh Charak, Chief Medical Officer Kamal Zadu, Tehsildar Ramban Deep Kumar, Tehsildar Headquarters Reejuta Mahajan, District Social Welfare Officer Sahil Bhagotra, BDO Headquarters Shalini Chandel, Drug Control Officer and officers from various enforcement and line departments attended the meeting. Sub-Divisional Magistrates, Tehsildars and other concerned officers participated through virtual mode.
