JAMMU, Dec 21: Prominent J&K Surgeons registered their impressive presence at five days mega surgical event of The Association of Surgeons of India (ASI), which concluded today at Biswa Bangala Convention Centre Kolkata. About 7000 Surgeons from across the world participated in ASICON-2025, organized by ASI, the second largest surgical body in the world and largest in the Asia-Pacific.
During five days deliberations, about 300 topics of surgical relevance were discussed by eminent Surgeons from India and abroad. About 55 fellowships of the Association were also given to the fellows.
The Surgeons of J&K Union Territory registered their impressive presence in the event by presenting more than 15 papers and involving in panel discussions of various surgical subjects.
Prof Sanjay Kumar Bhasin brought laurels to the GMC Jammu and JKUT by sharing podium with top surgical leadership of the ASI during inaugural ceremony and convocation to award fellowships to Surgeons.
He represented J&K on stage as the National Governing Council Members; an honour achieved by only four surgeons so far from J&K at that level.
Additionally he participated in Panel discussion titled; ‘Whispering Intestines: A tale of absorptive loss -short gut syndrome’. He also acted as one of the Chief examiners in coveted Torrent Young Surgeon Award examination.
Other prominent surgeons from J&K who participated in different roles at A Tenebrae ASICON are Prof Ajaz Rather, Chairman of JK Chapter; Prof Fazl Parry, former Chairman; Prof Ajaz Malik, HoD SKIMS; Prof Nazir Wani, HoD Anantnag; Prof Ravinder Kumar, HoD Kathua; Prof Zahoor; Dr Vijay Kumar, Dr Rajni; Dr Sham Gupta, Dr Sanjay Sharma, Prof Satish Parihar; Dr Zahid, Dr Altaf, Dr Vikrant, Dr Varun Dogra and others.
The J&K Chapter Conference of ASI has been allotted to AIIMS Vijaypur in April 2026 and next national ASICON to Ahmemdabad in Dec 2026.
