JAMMU, Nov 29: The Special Crime Wing Jammu of Crime Branch J&K today filed a chargesheet under Sections 420 and 120-B of the IPC against two individuals accused of cheating a woman of Rs 9.9 lakh after contacting her through a social media application.
It said the case began with a written complaint in which the victim stated that the accused approached her online and convinced her that they could help her become a model on Fashion TV.
On this false promise, they allegedly took away her hard-earned money by luring her with a fictitious multi-crore Fashion TV project & the investigation in the case was conducted by CB and the chargesheet was presented before the Court of Sub Judge, Passenger Tax, Jammu.
During the investigation, it said, the allegations were found to be genuine, and both accused were traced and arrested & the duo confessed to their involvement after sustained questioning.
The Special Crime Wing has advised the general public to remain cautious while interacting with unknown individuals or self-proclaimed influencers on social media platforms and to avoid sharing personal information or money with strangers online.
