CHENNAI, Nov 16: A Manager of private top Bank's Branch was arrested for stealing gold and cash more than 21 lakh from a locker belonging to an NRI customer.
The customer, who resides in the United States, had given locker access to her mother for routine operations.
During a recent inspection, her family discovered that 238 gm of gold was missing. Following a complaint lodged by the woman's brother,
CCB police registered a case and formed a special team to probe the incident & found that Manager used his position in the bank to open the locker and steal the contents.
He later sold the stolen gold for 21 lakh at a pawn shop in Venkateswara Nagar. Police recovered 20.6 lakh in cash hidden inside the bank's meeting room and 188 grams of melted gold from the pawn shop.
Preliminary inquiries confirmed that the bank official misused his access privileges to commit the theft. The accused was questioned, and arrested.
