 J&K: Court sentences a 41-year-old man to 20 years of "RI" for sexually assaulting a minor girl

UDHAMPUR, Oct 20: The Court of Principal Sessions Judge Udhampur of Virinder Singh Bhou today sentenced a 41-year-old man to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment for sexually assaulting a minor girl.

The convict, was found guilty under Section 5(m) of the POCSO Act and fined Rs 50,000.

The Court ordered that the fine, if recovered, be given to the victim for her medical and rehabilitation expenses.

The case dates back to July 2020, when the victim’s mother lodged a complaint at Police Station Ramnagar alleging that the accused assaulted her daughter while she was plucking pears.

The investigation conducted by then SHO Ramnagar, later confirmed aggravated sexual assault, leading to additional charges under IPC and POCSO sections.

During the trial, the victim’s testimony and medical evidence proved the offence beyond doubt.

 Accordingly, the convict was lodged in District Jail Udhampur and informed of his right to appeal.
