Srinagar, Sep 05: CPI(M) leader M.Y. Tarigami said that funds allocated for disaster management since the 2014 floods should first be investigated, and the money spent on dredging, along with the companies involved, must come under scrutiny with the investigation report made public.
The PILs filed against the Flood Control Department should be examined, and RTIs concerning areas including the Vasuhow stream and Rajbagh should be taken up.
The government must take long-term measures to address the recurrent problem of floods in Kashmir, there should be a proper assessment of flood damages and timely compensation provided to the affected people, while also declaring such disasters as natural calamities.
