Jammu, Sep 04: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Jammu & Kashmir today expressed heartfelt gratitude to Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji and Union Minister of Health & Family Welfare Shri Jagat Prakash Nadda Ji for their visionary decision to sanction 190 additional MBBS seats across five Government Medical Colleges of Jammu and Kashmir for the academic session 2025-26.
This landmark step, approved by the National Medical Commission (NMC), has increased the total MBBS intake in Government Medical Colleges of the Union Territory from 1,185 to 1,375 seats. With GMC Jammu and GMC Srinagar now reaching the 200-seat benchmark, and GMC Baramulla, Doda, and Kathua each enhanced to 150 seats, this expansion marks a new era for medical education in J&K. “This decision will not only benefit thousands of aspiring students who dream of becoming doctors but will also strengthen our healthcare delivery system by ensuring a larger pool of locally trained doctors to serve our people, especially in underserved regions,” BJP Spokesperson Ankit Gupta said.
He further added that under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Modi Ji, Jammu and Kashmir is witnessing unprecedented growth in the fields of education and healthcare. “The expansion of MBBS seats is a reflection of the Government’s unwavering commitment to making quality healthcare accessible and affordable for every citizen of the Union Territory,” he remarked. This transformative decision by the Central Government will inspire and empower the youth of J&K while significantly strengthening the healthcare sector for generations to come.
