DGP J&K reviews flood situation, rescue efforts in Jammu

 JAMMU, Sept 3: Amid continuous heavy rainfall and rising water levels in the Tawi, Chenab and adjoining nullahs, Director General of Police J&K, Nalin Prabhat, today visited several flood-affected areas of Jammu district to review the situation and ongoing rescue operations.

He was accompanied by DIG JSK Range, Shiv Kumar Sharma, SSP Jammu, Joginder Singh, and SP Rural, Brijesh Kumar Sharma.

The DGP first visited Mangu Chak, Makwal, Miran Sahib and Domana, where he interacted with police officers, SHOs, SDPOs and SDRF teams engaged in rescue operations.

He lauded their efforts in assisting the public in vulnerable belts.

Later, he visited Akhnoor, covering Jio Pota Ghat, Steel Bridge and the Fort area, where he held a meeting at the SDPO Akhnoor office. DIG BSF Sunderbani Akhnoor Range also attended the meeting. The DGP directed officers to work in close coordination to ensure safety of people affected by floods.

At Border Police Post (BPP) Garkhal and BSF Border Out Post (BOP) Garkhal, the DGP supervised a joint operation by J&K Police and BSF in which forty-seven civilians trapped in the Chenab at Fatu Kotli were rescued and airlifted.

He praised the timely and brave action of officers and jawans involved.

He also interacted with BSF personnel on ground and appreciated their commitment in difficult conditions.

MLA Akhnoor also met him and expressed gratitude for the timely rescue.

Later, the DGP along with senior officers visited Gujjar Nagar, Hari Ki Pauri, Gorkha Nagar and Bagh-e-Bahu areas to review the rising Tawi water level. He directed officers and jawans to remain alert for rescue and evacuation requirements and commended their dedication in relief operations.
