Chandigarh, Aug 25: A Summary General Court Martial has recommended dismissal of an Army Colonel from service and sentenced him to six years of rigorous imprisonment after convicting him on corruption charges.
The officer, Colonel was found guilty of acquiring assets disproportionate to his known income, including a flat in Jaipur and a BMW car, and large cash deposits he couldn't satisfactorily account for.
He has been held guilty of committing these acts while commanding the 503 Army Supply Corps unit in Ladakh area.
Seven charges were brought against him in the chargesheet in February when the orders to convene an SCGM were passed by the Army brass & he was convicted in all seven.
However, the punishment shall be subject to the final outcome of Col Pandey's application before the Chandigarh bench of Armed Forces Tribunal. "
The SGCM proceedings may go on, but no confirmation orders shall be passed," HC ordered on July 23 after Pandey approached the court to stall SGCM proceedings till his application against court martial was decided by AFT.
Col Pandey's petition is likely to be heard in September. Till then, the punishment awarded by SGCM shall not be confirmed by the Army top brass.
