Amritsar, May 14: At least 21 people, mostly daily wagers, died and 10 others were hospitalized after allegedly consuming spurious liquor in Amritsar district following which 10 people, including the alleged kingpin, have been arrested.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (Majitha) and Station House Officer, Majitha have been suspended for ‟negligence resulted in the fatal incident” and departmental inquiries initiated against them.
The CM, meanwhile, visited the affected villages, met the families of the victims and vowed to ensure the strictest punishment for the culprits by saying that these are not deaths, these are murders & such a tragedy could not have occurred without political, bureaucratic, or police support.
CM Mann announced a compensation of Rs 10 lakh to the next of kin each deceased and said that the state government will bear the entire expense of education of the children of the victims & every possible help in terms of jobs will be extended to the families.
