KATHUA, Oct 16:Emphasizing the significance of a drug free society for rapid growth and development, Minister for Industries & Commerce Chander Prakash Ganga said that this will help channelize youth’s energy in right direction which is pre-requisite for ushering in an era of progress and prosperity.
The Minister, while speaking at a function organized by the Peoples Forum for Human Values here today, highlighted the role of youth in steering the society towards a better world to live in.
The Minister said that drug menace is a serious threat to public health, safety and well-being of humanity which needs to be dealt strictly at all levels. He said that the society is facing serious consequences of drug abuse and it undermines the socio-economic and political stability and sustainable development. Besides, it also distorts the health and fabric of the society besides pushing the young generation towards petty offences and heinous crimes.
Ganga stressed upon the youth to involve themselves in sports activities which would help them to be mentally and physically fit besides keeping them away from such social evils. He directed the police officials to put sincere efforts in solving the cases pertaining to drug abuse besides initiating concerted steps to weed out the menace of drug trafficking.
MLA Samba, District Development Commissioner Samba, Sheetal Nanda, SSP Samba, Joginder Singh, DIG (Retd) Vijay Singh Sambyal, President Peoples Forum for Human Values, Karan Singh, other officials and locals were present on the occasion.
