Congress delegation meets Governor; alleges backdoor appointments by PDP-BJP Govt

Congress Party Delegation meets Governor

JAMMU, MARCH 3: A delegation of Indian National Congress Party led by Mr. Nawang Rigzin Jora, MLA Leh, called on Governor N.N. Vohra at the Raj Bhavan here today.

          The members of the delegation expressed concern over the manner in which delimitation of Panchayat Wards is being carried out in the absence of an independent State Election Commission. They demanded early establishment of an independent Commission/ mechanism for carrying out the delimitation process.

          The delegation also alleged that backdoor appointments were being illegally made in various Government departments; hike in price of atta and rice supplied through Public Distribution System; non-availability of ration, sugar and kerosene oil as per  the prescribed scale; inordinate delay in regularization of daily wagers and casual workers; delay in making the administrative units functional; delay in sanctioning entire package for DPs and 1947, 1965 and 1971 refugees and reservation for them in jobs and admissions  to professional colleges; instilling a sense of security among people to prevent fresh migration from Kashmir.

          Governor observed that the demands and complaints of the delegation shall be taken up with the Chief Minister.

          The delegation comprised Mr. Abdul Rashid Dar, MLA Sopore, Mr. Deldan Namgail, MLA Nubra; Ch. Mohammad Akram, MLA Surankote; Mr. Gulzar Ahmad Wani, MLA Shangus, Mr. Ghulam Mohammad Saroori, MLA Inderwal; Mr. Ashgar Ali Karbalaie, MLA Kargil; and MLC Mr. Naresh Gupta and Mr. Ravinder Sharma, former MLC.
