Fairoz Khan visits the site of devastating land subsidence; demands immediate relief

Ramban, Apr 26:  Fairoz Khan, State Youth Working President of Jammu and Kashmir and Former National President of NSUI, visited the site of a devastating land subsidence in Pernote Village of Ramban.

Numerous residential houses have been extensively damaged due to the shifting of a significant portion of land along the Gool-Sangaldan road. Khan, present at the site since morning, assessed the situation firsthand and with the team tried to provide all assistance possible to the affected families.

Expressing profound sympathies to all those affected by the tragedy, Khan emphasized the urgent necessity for prompt action from the administration to provide immediate assistance and support to the affected families.

He expressed gratitude to the local public and NGOs like Unmeed, Hamadard, QRT, and SDRF for their efforts, noting that administration presence was minimal but later subsequent increase in the administration's presence with DC Ramban visit, assuring all possible help. Khan highlighted the underlying causes of the land subsidence, attributing it to the dumping of muck into river beds, resulting in a change in the river flow.

He underscored that this is a prevalent issue in the Himalayan region, particularly in Ramban, exacerbated by hydel projects, highways, unplanned cutting, railways, and blasting activities. With more than 57 houses already damaged and the situation continuing to evolve, Khan demanded immediate relief from the Lieutenant Governor and the allotment of land to all the affected families for the construction of new houses.

He reiterated that the Congress party stands in solidarity and support with the people of Pernote, Ramban, and will ensure that those impacted by this devastating tragedy receive the assistance and support they need to recover and rebuild.
