JAMMU, Jan 18: Minister of State for Social Welfare Asiea Naqash today informed the house that the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao is a centrally sponsored scheme to generate awareness through mass campaign across the country about the declining trend in sex ratio and is not a benefit oriented scheme.
Replying to a question by Showkat Hussain Ganaie in the upper house, the Minister said the objective of the scheme is to celebrate the girl child and encourage and promote her education. She said the objective of the scheme is to prevent gender biased sex-selective elimination, to ensure survival and protection of the girl child besides ensuring education and participation of girl child.
Legislators Sajjad Ahmad Kichloo and Surinder Mohan Ambardar, Dr Shehnaz Ganaie and Zafar Iqbal Manhas raised supplementary queries to the main question.
