Senior IPS officer granted conditional bail after 15 months in prison

Bengaluru, Sept 28: After spending nearly 15 months in jail under judicial custody, suspended Additional Director General of Police Amrit Paul was granted conditional bail by the Karnataka high court.

Justice Mohammad Nawaz allowed the bail petition filed by the senior IPS officer, who is arraigned as accused no. 35 in the police sub-inspector recruitment scam case.

The judge directed Paul to furnish a bail bond for Rs 5 lakh with two sureties for like sum & has also been told to furnish proof residential address.

In addition, the officer has been told not to leave the country without prior permission from the court and also not to tamper with prosecution witnesses, either directly or indirectly.

The court said the petitioner should attend the trial on all days, except when he is exempted by the court, and co-operate with investigation.
