Industrial Visits Resumed Under Vocational Education In J&K

Srinagar, Nov 01: Vocational Coordinators who play a key role in successful implementation of the Vocational Education across Jammu and Kashmir UT, recently resumed school visits in a bid to further strengthen the vocational education system in schools.
The Industrial visits aim at industry exposure of the students who are being trained under different Sectors/Trade across UT of J&K through Samagra Shiksha, Department of School Education, J&K, and review the important curriculum and practical activities.
During a recent visit by Vocational Coordinators to GHSS, SOURA, an interactive session was held with Mr. Mohammad Amin Beigh, Principal GHSS Soura on Industrial Visits of students enrolled under Vocational Education. As the concerned principal is a member of NEP 2020, and is well aware about the benefits of Vocational Education and its successful implementation, coordinators briefed about the purpose and benefits of industrial visits in the light of guidelines of Samagra Shiksha. Due to Covid pandemic the said activity was not conducted in the last two years. Recently, the same has been resumed by the efforts of all the stakeholders.
Mr. Amin Beigh, Principal GHSS Soura, keen to implement the same in spirit so that the students could get benefits, accordingly, in-coordination with Vocational Coordinator and Vocational Trainer planned Industry Visit for the students. By the efforts of all the stakeholders and Ms. Sobana Muzaffer, Vocational Trainer, under the supervision of Vocational Coordinator and Mr. Amin Beigh, Principal GHSS Soura arranged an industrial tour for the students of class 9th of GHSS Soura who are being trained under IT/ITeS Sector. The group of students visited Handloom Development Corporation at Nowshera, Srinagar. A private industry that renders manufacturing of shawls and carpets. A detailed discussion was made on Application of IT services in handicraft sector during the visit.
In essence of the tour, the industry manager provided a short lecture to the students and briefed them about the application of IT services in their operations, designing and networking. The industry authorities further demonstrated the application of the IT services practically to the students.
Apart from how multiple softwares are used to device new and innovative designing techniques, experts educated the students with accounting softwares such as Tally, Sindro to maintain financial accounts in large scale industries. By dint of industry tour the students were also briefed about the rich history of Kashmiri handicrafts.
Subsequently, students of the same school visited General Post Office (GPO) located at the Bund, Sher-i-Kashmir Park Residency Road Srinagar providing services to the citizens. During the visit , the administrator provided a short lecture to the concerned students and briefed them about the utilization of IT in their operations, and then demonstrated the same. Their functions include Banking, Insurance and Postal Service, utiilizing IT system for maintaining their financial statements, customer accounts, mailing, PoS, and insurance.
Also, Students of BHS Bagh, Bandipora who are being trained under Electronics and Hardware Sector visited ITI Bandipora and got an overview of different trades (Electronics, Electrician, Computer Hardware and Automobile). Students were enthusiastic and did some practicals there. They were elated after the visit.
As Industrial visits are an essential part of the academic curriculum, coordination of Vocational Trainers, Vocational Coordinators & Head of the Schools make it possible for the Students enrolled under Healthcare Sector to visit different hospitals of J&K , got the major exposure of real working environments along with a practical perspective of a theoretical concept relevant to their domain.
In the coming months more industrial visits will be conducted for the students who are being trained under Vocational Education under 14 different trades through Samagra Shiksha, J&K.
