National Sports Week Celebrations reach Birpur in outskirts of Jammu


JAMMU,  August 26: As part of National Sports week celebration, Sports Council organised sports events in Basketball, tug of war and and Pencak Silat besides essay writing competition on IMPORTANCE OF SPORTS and GAMES under the close supervision of Mohammed Hanif JKAS, Chief Sports Officer J and K Sports Council.
The Secretary Sports Council in her message expressed  that sports and games are important for the betterment of physical health and health consciousness both of which can contribute to enhance day overall human performance index of the UT J and K.
The competitions were declared open today for boys and girls by the Principal, Government higher secondary school Birpur, Mrs. Anju Devi in presence of divisional sports officer Jammu J and K Sports Council Ashok Singh who presided over the function as guest of honour being former student of this school.
Around 500 boys and girls drawn from Government and private institutions of the area participated in the mega event with enthusiasm and showcased their talent.
The spotlight of the day was  solo event demonstration in Pencak Silat by Er.Varun Singh Jamwal (M tech.)National medalist  at the closing ceremony.
The players and audience requested to J and K government as well as Sports Council to organise these competitions in rural areas  regularly to provide the platform for youth to excel in National and international competitions Divisional sports officer, Jammu extended gratitude to all the participants officials and supporters for their contribution to make the event a resounding success.
The matches were officiated by Shamsuddin, Gurcharan Singh Sushma jawal, Manjeet Singh, Munishwar Singh, Dhiraj Singh, Ajay Sharma, Sanjay Gupta, Rajat Khajuria alongwith the staff from National public school Birpur.
