FC Agriculture reviews National Mission on Saffron

          SRINAGAR, DECEMBER 19: Financial Commissioner Agriculture Production Department, Pramod Kumar Jain, today convened a meeting to review the progress made under National Mission on Saffron (NMS).

          Deputy Commissioner Pulwama, Muneer-ul-Islam, officers of Agriculture Department and other concerned attended the meeting.

          During the meeting, it was informed that over 145 hectares of Saffron land was rejuvenated under the mission and Corm multiplication was taken up over an area of over 19 hectares.

          It was also said that 23 Vermi Compost Units have been established and 23 Weeders have been distributed to farmers on 50 percent subsidy basis.

          In order to give boost to Saffron production, the Financial Commissioner asked the executing agencies to expedite the work on Spice Park which would come up at a cost of Rs 24 crore over an area of 85 kanals of Khahcharai land at Galandar Pampore.

          He said the aim of the National Mission on Saffron is to increase production and productivity of saffron, maintaining quality and improving marketing facilities.

          On the occasion, the saffron growers interacted with the   Financial Commissioner and discussed various issues regarding speedy implementation of the saffron mission.

          The meeting deliberated upon various issues coming in the way of project implementation, particularly with regard to execution of irrigation system.              

          The FC directed the officials to provide a road map for accomplishment of the set targets for various components of the mission within stipulated time.
